Program Details/Requirements

  • Boats: We will primarily be utilizing Lasers but depending on skill level we may also utilize the clubs FJ’s
  • Adults and experienced, capable kids welcome, but all participation, navigation limits, and boat usage is at the full discretion of the Fleet Captain or Fleet Officers on duty.
  • Time: Noon – 4PM 
    • Setup: Noon – 12:30PM
    • Sailing: 12:30PM  - 3:30PM
    • NOTE:  Please arrive at noon so that we have ample time for setup
  • Where: Meet up at the dinghy dock @ Pier 40
  • Cost: $10 per boat (max 2 per boat). Free for SBYC youth sailors who have completed one of the SBYC sailing camps.
  • Gear: Gear is an important part of dingy sailing on the SF Bay and since we plan to be out on the water for several hours, everyone participating must have the minimum gear outlined below:
    • Wetsuit or dry suit
    • US Coast Guard approved life vest.  Note: Inflatables are not acceptable.
    • Wetsuits may also be rented from the kayak place on Pier 40.
    • Showers are available in the harbor building.
  • We will set up short races and/or group sails around the bay.
  • We will always have at least one chase boat in the water, but all participation is at your own risk. Signed liability waivers must be on file.
  • Participants must learn to setup, rig, derig, and put away boats
    • Rigging instruction will be provided at noon on sailing days.  Please ensure you arrive on time.

 Fleet officers needed to help operate and manage our fleet, drive chase boats, help with setup. Contact small boat fleet captains Bill Adams or Tom Green to volunteer.
