South Beach YC offers some of Northern California's finest year-round racing. We hit the Bay's racing scene with style in 1989 with a challenge for a Labor Day Weekend race that became our annual Jazz Cup. Our racing has grown ever since.

There's nothing like finishing a race to the roar of the crowd under bright stadium lights at a home game of World Series winning SF Giants. Always a thrill when national TV pans down to our finish line.

Today our racing calendar consists of our mid-winter and summer race series, regional races, and select regattas that we host or provide race committee.

Mid-winters The Island Fever Regatta is our mid-winter series, running one Saturday per month Nov-Mar for a total of five races. Light winds, heavy winds, currents, and courses around bay islands make for a tactical and strategic challenge.

Friday Night Series Our Friday Night Series runs from April into September and generally attracts 60 or more entries. Raced around buoys south of the Bay Bridge, the series consists of 12 races plus one practice race. Overall winners are scored for the six races in the first half and for all twelve races overall. See the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for timings, but races generally start after 6pm and most boats finish by 8:30pm. Dinners are offered afterwards in the clubhouse for a small additional fee.

Jazz Cup Our annual regatta, our signature race. A 26nm usually downwind romp from Treasure Island to Benicia on Labor Day Weekend. With a big favorable current, hang on for a fast ride! It's the result of an historic challenge made over drinks at Benicia YC when our club was just a year old and had not yet proven the strength of our racing fleet! SBYC has succeeded in winning the cup -- formed by an antique trumpet -- for most years since its first running in 1989. 08/31/2013
